Toronto-based Porter Airlines on Friday will begin selling tickets to Newark, N.J., the first U.S. destination in its expansion plans.
The privately owned airline said service between the Toronto City Centre Airport and Newark Liberty International Airport will begin March 31. Porter will run seven daily round-trip flights as well as limited weekend service.

Skybus Airlines Inc. is set on Monday to add nonstop service to the New York and Los Angeles areas from its North Carolina hub.
The Columbus-based discount airline said its hub at Greensboro, N.C.’s Piedmont Triad International Airport on Feb. 25 will begin two daily nonstop flights to Stewart International Airport, 55 miles north of New York, and one flight to Burbank’s Bob Hope International Airport.
Skybus began service to New York from Port Columbus International Airport in January, when it also cut one of its two daily flights to Burbank from Columbus.

EasyJet’s decision to open two more French bases at Paris Charles de Gaulle and Lyon is the latest sign that low-cost carriers are ready and willing to make a serious push into an airline market that offers significant potential, but has traditionally erected high barriers to entry.
The UK budget operator launched its CDG base earlier this month and will open its base at Lyon Saint-Exupery airport in April. This is in addition to the base it already has at Paris Orly, where the carrier has stationed six aircraft.

Travellers planning to book a trip with budget airline Ryanair this weekend will have to hold off for a few days after the company announced that its booking system will be off limits from Friday evening until Monday evening.
The company said on its website that its internet and call centre booking system would be down from 10pm on February 22nd to 11pm on February 25th “‘because of the changeover to a new flight booking system.'”
Customers will not be able to make new bookings, flight changes or review existing bookings through the Ryanair website or call centre during this period.

Spanish low-cost airline Clickair has scrapped plans to introduce a regular Sofia-Barcelona flight as part of its cost-cutting push, daily El Pais reported on February 4.
Clickair, partially owned by Spanish national flag carrier Iberia, has dropped a total of eight routes to trim down its flight schedule, choosing to concentrate on its more profitable flights.

Discount carrier JetBlue Airways Corp. said it will expand its service from the West Coast on May 21 by launching transcontinental flights from Los Angeles International Airport and adding new flights from its existing airports in Southern California.

Ryanair will invest $140m in 2 new aircraft to operate 12 routes from its new base in Reus near Barcelona.
Reus is the budget airline’s 26th European and fifth Spanish base.

New York-based JetBlue Airways will add its first international service from Florida next month with the launch of daily nonstop service from Orlando to Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic (starts March 6).
JetBlue will also add a second daily nonstop flight between Orlando and Aguadilla, Puerto Rico, beginning May 1. This summer, the airline will offer Orlando travelers a total of six daily nonstop flights to Puerto Rico, including three to San Juan, two to Aguadilla, and one to Ponce.

Zoom Airlines, the leading low-fare transatlantic airline, has announced that it will be operating a new route from London Gatwick to San Diego in Southern California for summer 2008.
From June this year, Zoom will offer the only direct non-stop air service between Europe and San Diego when flights linking London with the southern Californian city are introduced.

FlyYeti.com, Nepal’s first low-cost carrier (LCC), today launched non-stop service between Kathmandu, the carrier’s global hub, and Abu Dhabi, the UAE capital. The airline, which will provide service between the two cities five times per week, recently commenced service to Sharjah, UAE, and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
