easyJet launches 14 new routes across Europe

easyJet is opening 14 new routes across Europe, for summer 2009. Nine of the new routes will operate from UK regional airports, giving travellers even more choice of popular destinations.

As part of the expansion, easyJet will base an additional aircraft at Liverpool from 1 June 2009 and at Manchester from 4 August 2009.

EasyJet steps into Sterling Airlines’ shoes

easyJet is starting a service between Gatwick and Copenhagen in the wake of the collapse of Scandinavian carrier Sterling Airlines.The daily flight will start on January 15 and run alongside easyJet’s existing Stansted-Copenhagen service, which operates three times a day.

EasyJet might also add capacity to the Gatwick route in the summer. The new route goes on sale on Wednesday November 15.

EasyJet fills XL gap

EasyJet has scheduled additional flights to three holiday destinations next month following the demise of XL Leisure Group.

Extra flights have been added from Gatwick to Las Palmas, Gran Canaria; Dalaman in Turkey and Arracife in Lanzarote.

Stelios takes easyJet to court over branding

Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou is taking easyJet, the airline that he founded, to the High Court to try to limit its ability to make money from activities that may clash with his other ventures. The surprising spat between the budget carrier and its founder stunned the City yesterday and threatens to limit the airline’s ability to raise revenues.

Sir Stelios founded easyJet in 1995, is still a board director and owns 16 per cent of the airline. He also owns the easyJet name through a company called easyGroup IP Licensing, which has brought the High Court action.

Budget airline easyJet reports 6-month loss of $85.4 million

Budget airline easyJet said Wednesday that its losses in the first half more than tripled as rising fuel costs outweighed a 24 percent jump in revenues.

The company reported a loss of 43.3 million pounds ($85.4 million) in the six months ending March 31, compared with a loss of 12.7 million pounds in the same period a year earlier.

easyJet launches three new routes from Bristol

easyJet, the UK’s largest airline, launches three new routes this week from Bristol to Biarritz, Olbia and Split . The new services this morning to Biarritz will provide the region’s travellers with access to some of the most beautiful scenery in Europe, whilst Olbia and Split will join the network from Bristol on Saturday 26 April 2008; perfect timing for the summer sun.

Biarritz is easyJet’s 39th route from Bristol and Katie Walsh from Southampton was the lucky passenger selected at check-in to receive two free flights to both Olbia in Sardinia and Split in Croatia, giving them the opportunity to experience easyJet’s new destinations from Bristol.

Airline discount hides fares rise

Low cost airline easyJet broke advertising rules by raising fares after promising a 25 per cent discount on all its routes, a watchdog said today.

Some passengers taking advantage of the Easter deal would have paid more for a seat than before it was introduced, the Advertising Standards Authority ruled.

It told easyJet not to use the claim again unless it made clear that prices, although discounted, could rise during the promotion.

easyJet opens 20th base at Lyon Airport

Andy Harrison, easyJet’s Chief Executive, officially opened the airline’s 20th base at Lyon Saint-Exupéry airport this month (April 4), with an inauguration ceremony held at the airport in the presence of Mr Gérard Collomb, Mayor of Lyon.

The new base in France’s second largest city is part of a €600m investment over a four-year-period that will strengthen easyJet’s position as the largest low-fares airline in France. The investment will enable easyJet to increase its fleet in France from 6 based aircraft to 20 and to double the number of passengers from 6 million in 2007 to 12 million in 2011.

EasyJet says it will stick to promise and not add extra fuel costs to ticket prices

EasyJet stuck to a five-year-old pledge yesterday and promised not to introduce a fuel surcharge, even as its shares fell 17 per cent amid warnings that it would be spending £45 million more than it had forecast on aviation fuel in the second half of the year.

A profit warning from the low-cost airline dragged down the aviation sector and easyJet predicted worse to come from its rivals, which it said were basing their forecasts on oil at $850 a tonne, while it had risen to more than $1,000 a tonne.

EasyJet launches priority boarding season ticket

EasyJet has announced an annual programme for passengers wanting to use its Speedy Boarding priority system on a regular basis.

Called easyJet Plus, it allows passengers to be among the first to board by showing a credit-card sized membership card at the gate without the need to pre-book. The card will be popular among business travellers who like to get a seat close to the front of the aircraft.
