British air carrier bmi has begun twice daily service from London�??s Heathrow Airport to Moscow -Domodedovo International Airport. The flights are operated as a code-share deal between bmi and Transaero (Russia). Bmi will be responsible for one flight a day operating A-320 aircraft and the second flight will be under Transaero colours, using B737 aircraft.

Aer Lingus is to operate an additional 86 flights per week from Dublin and Cork airports – totalling an additional 15,000 extra seats in and out of Ireland. New flights include routes from Dublin to Athens, Newcastle and Milan-Malpensa for next summer and from Cork to Manchester, Madrid and Prague. The airline will also increase the frequency of flights to a range of current European destinations.

A Nigerian airliner carrying 104 people crashed Sunday near the Abuja airport shortly after takeoff and burst into flames. A hospital official told Nigerian television that his facility is treating seven survivors. Sunday’s crash is the third fatal crash involving Nigerian airlines in the past 12 months.

Spanair launches an exclusive check-in and boarding service for users of the Madrid – Barcelona route in terminal 3 at Madrid – Barajas airport.
The new services will substantially reduce the distance passengers have to cover within the airport building.
From the 30th of October, Spanair will provide its customers with a check-in and boarding service in Terminal T3 at Madrid – Barajas Airport. This service includes five exclusive check-in desks and four Easy check-in machines, in addition to the check-in systems already available to passengers at Terminal 2, the web-based service, spanair.com, and the telephone check-in service.

Charter airline Excel Airways last week officially added its name to the growing number of airlines vying for space in Irelandâ??s skies.
The firm is investing US$50 million (â?¬39.4 million) in its Irish venture, including a new Boeing 737 aircraft, and will begin flying next summer. As well as selling seats directly to tour operators, the airline will fly from Cork and Dublin to destinations expected to include Spain, Portugal, Greece and Bulgaria.

Virgin Atlantic has said that they are deferring their order for the new Airbus A380 by four years. The company had ordered six of the new superjumbos for delivery in 2009 but they now want them delivered by 2013.
A380 plane has been a problem for Airbus as it has already suffered too many delays. Market had been speculating that Virgin would ditch the plane altogether but they have responded by stating that they still are confident about this plane.

United Airlines said on Friday it raised round-trip fares by $6 and one-way tickets by $3 on some routes where it faces low-cost competition.
A spokeswoman for the No. 2 U.S. airline, said the carrier increased the prices on Thursday night to offset the higher cost of fuel.
U.S. airlines have implemented several fare hikes this year to combat soaring fuel prices.

EasyJet, the leading low-cost airline on the European market, will inaugurate its new Milan Malpensa-Amsterdam route on October 31. Daily flights are planned, with two ones very day starting on 15 December 2006.
The new flight is part of a further expansion from the Milan Malpensa airport set in motion by the company a few months after the inauguration in spring. The winter schedule, in addition to the new Milan Malpensa-Prague flight (from 15 December 2006), also calls for a sizeable increase in frequency for connections to the main European capitals.

Alaska Airlines said Friday it is adding five nonstop Mexico routes from the West Coast and increasing the frequency of some existing routes, boosting its capacity to Mexico by 22 percent this fall.
The airline will add nonstop service between Los Angeles and La Paz, Portland, Ore. and both Los Cabos and Puerto Vallarta, San Francisco and Cancun and Seattle and Cancun.
