Low cost flights from the UK to Cyprus

Monarch have this week announced the introduction of new low cost air fares for economy flights from London to Larnaca for 2007.

The award winning airline which was recently named as Leisure Airline of the Year, will introduce this service from March 2007.

Vueling will operate 8 destinations in Ibiza

Vueling, the new-generation airline, culminates its most ambitious Ibiza programme ever, by linking the island with eight destinations in Spain, France, and Italy. Overall, Vueling puts on sale more that 430,000 seats in order to fly between March and October.

From May 30th to September 21st, the company will base one Airbus A-320 at Ibiza airport. This will reinforce the Barcelona and Valencia routes and will allow three new destinations: Seville, Bilbao, and Alicante.

Challenge to TGV as Ryanair brings budget air travel to France

Ryanair, Europe’s most successful low-cost airline, is going nose to nose with Europe’s largest and most successful high-speed railway system.

The Irish-based airline announced yesterday that it was starting cheap flights in May from Beauvais airport, 50 miles north-west of Paris, to Marseilles. Ryanair will also try to break into the German domestic market for the first time with flights between Frankfurt and Berlin.

Low-cost flights to link Scandinavia with Dubai

Norwegian, a low-cost airline operating out of Scandinavia, will soon begin operating direct flights to Dubai. The airline announced the new route at the end of February, saying it would be the first budget airline to fly from Europe to Dubai, reports Gulf News.

Flights from Oslo and Stockholm to Dubai will take off for the first time on October 26th 2008. The new service will contribute to a growing number of links between Scandinavia and the Middle East.

Wizz Air further expands in Romania, announces new routes to Brussels, Milan, Dortmund

Wizz Air, the largest CEE based low fare-low cost airline has announced the launch of its first domestic service in Romania with flights between Bucharest and Cluj-Napoca with 4 weekly frequencies. This is the only domestic flight operated by low cost company in Romania.

Ryanair sets up base at Edinburgh Airport

Ryanair Holdings PLC said it has agreed to set-up its second Scottish base at Edinburgh airport.

The Irish airline, which counts Edinburgh as its 27th European base, has said it will base two new Boeing Co  737-800 aircraft at the airport.

It will serve 19 routes to and from the Scottish capital. The low-fares carrier already operates services to and from Scotland’s Glasgow Prestwick airport.

Porter Airlines to launch U.S. service

Toronto-based Porter Airlines on Friday will begin selling tickets to Newark, N.J., the first U.S. destination in its expansion plans.

The privately owned airline said service between the Toronto City Centre Airport and Newark Liberty International Airport will begin March 31. Porter will run seven daily round-trip flights as well as limited weekend service.

Skybus to launch New York, Los Angeles-area flights from N.C. hub

Skybus Airlines Inc. is set on Monday to add nonstop service to the New York and Los Angeles areas from its North Carolina hub.

The Columbus-based discount airline said its hub at Greensboro, N.C.’s Piedmont Triad International Airport on Feb. 25 will begin two daily nonstop flights to Stewart International Airport, 55 miles north of New York, and one flight to Burbank’s Bob Hope International Airport.

Skybus began service to New York from Port Columbus International Airport in January, when it also cut one of its two daily flights to Burbank from Columbus.

BA’s new airline to fly direct Paris-JFK from June

OpenSkies, the new airline launched by British Airways to operate direct services from Europe to the US, intends to launch its first services on the route between Paris and New York JFK.

The airline has this week applied to the US authorities for approval for the services and says it intends to launch the new flights in June.

In documents filed with the US Department of Transportation, the airline says it intends to expand its services to connect Amsterdam, Brussels, Frankfurt and Milan with New York as well as other US points.
