Ryanair begins new flight routes

Budget airline Ryanair is extending its operation at Liverpool’s John Lennon Airport with 11 new destinations.
Routes to Santiago, Inverness, Wroclaw, Aberdeen, Kaunas and Ancona officially launched from the airport of Liverpool.

A further five routes – Poznan, Krakow, Tampere, Alghero and Santander – are being launched later in the week.

Gol to tap Chilean regional low-cost flying demand

Brazil’s Gol said on Monday it will provide low-cost flights for up to 200,000 Chile-based passengers in its first year, but does not aim to compete with regional giant LAN Airlines for Chile’s domestic market, of which LAN has 73 percent.

Gol Linhas Aereas Inteligentes has launched two daily flights between Rio de Janeiro and Santiago with stop-overs in Sao Paulo and Buenos Aires, and another between Florianopolis and Santiago via Porto Alegre and Buenos Aires.

Brazil Low-Cost Airline Gol Launches Chile Ticket Sales

Brazilian no-frills airline Gol Linhas Aereas Inteligentes SA (GOL) has launched ticket sales for flights to and from Chile, it said late Tuesday. Chile will be Gol’s seventh foreign destination. According to Gol, Chile is the second biggest travel destination for Brazilians in South America behind Argentina.

Gol already flies to Argentina, Bolivia, Paraguay and Uruguay. The company will daily connect Santiago and the Brazilian cities of Rio de Janeiro, Porto Alegre, Sao Paulo, and Florianopolis, with stops in Buenos Aires. Flights will debut on Sept. 25.

Phoenix is planning to woo AirTran

Phoenix-area airport officials will travel to Orlando next week to meet with AirTran Airways about starting service out of either Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport or Williams Gateway Airport in Mesa. AirTran is a fast-growing, low-cost carrier that operates nationwide, although its network of destinations is predominately on the East Coast. Phoenix is the largest metropolitan market not served by the airline.

Brazil Low-Cost Airline Gol Launches Chile Ticket Sales

Brazilian no-frills airline Gol Linhas Aereas Inteligentes SA (GOL) has launched ticket sales for flights to and from Chile, it said late Tuesday.

Chile will be Gol’s seventh foreign destination. According to Gol, Chile is the second biggest travel destination for Brazilians in South America behind Argentina.

Gol already flies to Argentina, Bolivia, Paraguay and Uruguay. The company will daily connect Santiago and the Brazilian cities of Rio de Janeiro, Porto Alegre, Sao Paulo, and Florianopolis, with stops in Buenos Aires. Flights will debut on Sept. 25.

Low-cost airline GermanWings to offer four weekly flights to Malta

Germanwings will start operations to Malta next March. The German airline will operate two weekly flights from Cologne and another two flights a week from Stuttgart, on Tuesday and on Saturday.

MIA said that through the new German link, Maltese travellers will have more options, at considerably low fares.

Besides the introduction of two new regions in Germany, passengers will also be able to purchase tickets to destinations such as Edinburgh, Gothenburg, Stockholm, Helsinki, Oslo and St Petersburg, all of which are served by Germanwings via their Cologne base.

Low-Cost Airline Offers Flights From Kinston, Fayetteville

A new air carrier announced service between Fayetteville and Orlando Thursday. That comes a day after the airline announced service between the Florida resort city and Kinston.

Allegiant Air said it plans to begin flights from Fayetteville on Nov. 7, with a special one-way $49 fare for passengers who book trips by Sept. 30. Regular one-way fares will be $79.

Continental Airlines applies for permission to launch Newark-Shanghai service

Continental Airlines said it is applying for permission to launch a daily service from Newark to Shanghai. The US will award one new flight designation next year.

Continental is competing against applications from American Airlines, United Airlines and Northwest Airlines.  American Airlines hopes to launch a service from Dallas Fort Worth to Beijing, United is looking to fly from Washington DC to Beijing, while Northwest will apply for a service to Shanghai from Detroit.

New low-cost airlines enter Maltese market

Two major low-cost airlines, Ryanair and Easy Jet, have received the go-ahead from the Maltese government to operate new routes to the Mediterranean island.

Accepting incentives worth some $3 million a year to operate year-round services, Ryanair will within eight weeks be offering a daily service to Malta from London’s Luton airport and a thrice-weekly flight from Pisa, Italy.


Porter Airlines gets 1st plane for proposed Toronto-Ottawa run

Porter Airlines, the fledgling carrier with a controversial plan to run flights between Toronto’s island airport and Ottawa, took delivery of its first aircraft on Tuesday.

The privately owned company is still waiting for clearance from Transport Canada and the Canadian Transportation Agency to commence operations at Toronto’s City Centre Airport, which it hopes to do by fall.
