Singapore Airlines plans to increase flights to India

Singapore Airlines yesterday said it is exploring the possibility of operating additional flights to Delhi, Chennai and Bangalore after the traffic rights are made available.

The airline would also start its sixth service from Bangalore and increase its capacity to the city by almost 20 per cent.

US Airlines expand their schedules to the Caribbean

As more United States travelers head south to the Caribbean each year, airlines are responding with new stops and increased service on some of their routes.

The Dominican Republic’s increasing popularity is also increasing its accessibility. For example, next month, Delta plans to introduce nonstop flights from New York to Punta Cana, and will start flying direct from Atlanta to Santiago de Los Caballeros and Puerto Plata.

Air service is also increasing to some islands that have not been as well-known among Americans. Continental will begin flying nonstop from Newark to Bonaire next month. Delta will start flying from Atlanta to Trinidad, Martinique and Guadalupe in December, and begin weekly service to Tobago from Atlanta in February.

In January, Air Jamaica will start making an additional nonstop flight a week from New York to St. Lucia. And JetBlue, which started flying nonstop to Aruba from New York in September, plans to add another flight there next month.

Brussels clears aid to airlines on Malta routes

The European Commission yesterday gave the green light to a scheme launched by the government last July subsidising a number of new air routes to and from Malta.

Ryanair, which started operating scheduled flights from Luton and Pisa at the end of last month, was the first airline to benefit from the scheme.

The Commission said it has decided to allow Malta to grant start-up aid for new air routes from Malta International Airport.

Iberia starts flying to Gibraltar

Iberia will start flying daily between Madrid and Gibraltar on December 16th. The new schedule flight will leave Madrid Barajas airport at 11:50 a.m. and will arrive at Gibraltar at 13:00. The return flight will be at 13:50, while it will land at Madrid at 15:00. From there, passengers will be able to fly to the other Iberia’s Spanish and international destinations.

Southwest Airlines to add more flights to Reno, Lake Tahoe

Southwest Airlines will add twice-daily nonstop service between San Diego and Reno/Lake Tahoe beginning March 11, the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority (SDCRAA) announced today.

The flights will be on a Boeing 737 aircraft with 137 seats, according to the SDCRAA.

Southwest Air to add nonstop flights

Southwest Airlines Co. said Thursday it will add 33 new nonstop flights this spring, including new service between Baltimore/Washington and Pittsburgh.

The new flights are for 26 city pairs and will also include new nonstop service to connect Cleveland and Orlando, Fla.; Dallas Love Field and Birmingham, Ala.; and Reno/Lake Tahoe in Nevada and San Diego. The low-cost carrier will also augment some existing service.

Southwest will roll out the new service between March 11 and April 15.

Kolkata-Frankfurt Lufthansa flight resumes after 35 years

Lufthansa would resume passenger services connecting Frankfurt and Kolkata from December 2, after 35 years with three weekly flights.

The airline would operate a 235-seater non-stop Airbus A340-300 between Frankfurt and Kolkata with a three class configuration establishing its presence across all metros with 45 weekly flights.

Its frequency could be increased with the hike in business, since the airline was permitted to operate 50 flights a week as per a new Indo-German Air Traffic Agreement.

Eos Airlines to expand its fleet with new capital in hand

Eos Airlines has announced that it has secured a second round of institutional investment, which will enable the airline to expand its fleet of 757 aircraft in preparation for new routes in 2007. Eos, which launched innovative premium class-only service between New York and London in 2005, announced that new expansion capital of $75 million has been raised from both current and new institutional investors.

The new funding will help underwrite the acquisition of additional aircraft, as well as continued product and service innovations.
