Frontier announces Costa Rica flight plan

Frontier Airlines will begin flying from Denver to San Jose, Costa Rica Nov. 30, the carrier announced today.

Frontier said its introductory fares start at $298 roundtrip.

The carrier will fly to Costa Rica on Sundays, Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays. Denver-based Frontier is the only airline to fly direct between Denver and Costa Rica. The carrier also flies to Mexico and to Canada.

Eos Airlines expands its fleet as it prepares for future trans-atlantic routes

Eos Airlines announces today that it has increased its fleet to four Boeing 757-200ER aircraft in preparation for future new routes and additional frequencies to its current schedule. A fifth aircraft is scheduled to be received in December with negotiations for a sixth underway. As part of an “‘uncrowded'” travel experience, the planes will be outfitted for Eos Class service in a configuration which features individual “‘suites'” for every guest, with 21 sq. ft. of personal space and a patented, award-winning seat that converts to a 6’6″ horizontally flat bed. This innovative cabin design was one of the many reasons Eos was named 2007’s “‘Best Long-Haul Business Airline'” by Business Travel World.

Ryanair offers 1 million free seats

Ryanair yesterday announced two new routes from Nottingham East Midlands to Budapest and Riga starting in October.

The carrier is East Midlands’ largest airline and will carry 1.8m passengers to / from the airport this year.

Ryanair also launched a new European price war by giving away 1 million free seats.

Budget airline Ryanair to operate Budapest-UK route from October

Ryanair, Europe’s fastest-growing airline, on Thursday said it will launch flights four times a week between Budapest and Nottingham, Britain, from the end of October.

Tomas Kulakowski, the budget carrier’s business and marketing director for Central Europe, said Ryanair was expecting 60,000 passengers to fly the route in its first year.

Although Kulakowski did not disclose whether the airline planned to launch additional flights from Hungary, he said “this is not the last route” that Ryanair hoped to operate from Budapest airport. He said within a month new routes could be established.

Germany’s LTU to offer flights to Berlin, Hamburg

The German airline LTU has agreed to start flying between Melbourne international Airport flights and Berlin or Hamburg, Germany, starting in November, the airport director said.

Melbourne Aviation Director Richard Ennis said German-based M-Touristik has until August to determine whether there is enough interest, both in Germany and Florida, to justify flights once a week.

The deal will provide the airport its first scheduled international flights. Delta Air Lines provides daily flights between Melbourne and Atlanta.

Spanair linking Bilbao and Munich

On May 10, Bilbao played host to numerous events to celebrate the launch of the Spanair route linking the Biscayan and Bavarian capitals, which was inaugurated on the 15th of April.

The day commenced with the arrival at Bilbao airport of the “‘inaugural flight'” from Munich, transporting members of the German press invited to the event. On landing, the aeroplane was baptised in the presence of aviation and tourism authorities.

ExpressJet begins flights to LA today

ExpressJet Airlines will begin daily non-stop service from El Paso to Los Angeles/Ontario today, airline officials said.

In a press statement released this morning, ExpressJet President and CEO Jim Ream said the airline intends to save time for travelers by eliminating layovers in crowded hubs. “‘We intend to deliver our customers more convenience and more service in growing cities like El Paso with populations that are the right size for our 50-seat aircraft,'” Ream said.

AirAsia to fly direct to Vientiane from July

Asia’s top budget carrier AirAsia will fly direct to Vientiane in Laos from Kuala Lumpur from July.

The airline’s chief executive Tony Fernandes said: “‘Our aim is to become an Asian airline. Without a doubt, the resumption of a direct air link after nearly a 10-year hiatus will spur economic benefits.’”

“‘That is the beauty of a low cost carrier. We can fly to destinations which others don’t,’” he said.

Southwest to resume flights from SFO

Southwest Airlines Co., the nation’s largest low-fare carrier, announced Friday it will begin service at San Francisco International Airport in August with 18 flights and cut-rate introductory fares on its initial departures to San Diego, Las Vegas and Chicago.

The 18 nonstop departures starting Aug. 26 represent the airline’s largest initial new-city schedule in its history, and beats its announcement in February to resume SFO service this fall with 14 flights. Southwest will resume SFO flights six years after it pulled out of the airport because of high costs, flight delays and restraints on growth.

“‘We’ve been longing to return to San Francisco,'” said Gary Kelly, Southwest’s chief executive. “‘We beat our promise of coming back in the fall.'”

Ryanair announces new routes to Málaga

The low-cost airline, Ryanair, has announced that it expects to reach passenger volume of 285,000 through Málaga this year, thanks to three new routes brought in this year.

The latest will be in October, with four connections a week to Düsseldorf, expected to generate 60,000 passengers.

The airline introduced earlier in the year new routes to other cities in Germany: Frankfurt and Bremen. They also operate links from Málaga with Dublin, Shannon and Brussels.
