Ryanair planning eight new services from Shannon

Ryanair has announced plans to begin operating eight new routes from Shannon Airport later this year.

The airline says it will be starting services to Birmingham, Fuerteventura, Kaunas, Leeds, Luton, Riga and Tenerife in November.

It will also be starting a twice-daily domestic service to Dublin and increasing the frequency of flights to Edinburgh and Manchester.

Airline announces Toronto to India flights by summer

A leading Indian airline will begin flights from Toronto to India this summer on a route that Air Canada has failed to make profitable several times in the past.

JetAirways (India) Ltd. will begin five flights a week from Toronto through Brussels, destined for New Delhi beginning Aug. 23. The Indian carrier aims to deliver daily service by the end of October as part of a major push into North America, said Abraham Joseph, a senior general manager for the airline.

Skybus adds flights to San Diego, Florida, New England

Skybus Airlines Inc. plans to boost service from Port Columbus International Airport to southern California, Florida and New England in mid-July.

The fledgling Columbus airline will add flights to San Diego starting July 16, as well as service to Westover Metropolitan Airport in Chicopee, Mass., to serve Hartford, Conn., and Springfield, Mass.

The low-cost carrier is scheduled to begin flying July 18 into St. Augustine (Fla.) Airport to serve Jacksonville and Daytona Beach. It will add a second daily nonstop flight to Fort Lauderdale, Fla., beginning July 16.

Airline launches new low-cost destinations

low-cost airline Jet2.com has launched two new services from its base at Newcastle International Airport.

The airline, which now flies to 16 destinations from the North-East, has added services to two popular locations in the Canary Islands to the list.

The inaugural flights to Gran Canaria and Lanzarote will leave Newcastle on October 29 and November 1 respectively, in time for the beginning of the winter 2007-8 season, and tickets are now on sale, priced from £54.99 one way, including taxes.

No-Frills German airline flies to Bulgaria’s seaside

German low-cost airline Germanwings announced the launch of new destinations in Bulgaria.

The airline will service flights from Berlin and Cologne/Bonne to the Bulgarian seaside hotspots of Varna and Burgas. The company has been servicing since the end of March flights from Cologne and Bonne to the capital Sofia three times a week.

The flights to the Black Sea coast will be conducted once a week.

Brazilian airline plans direct Miami-Rio flights

Brazilian airline TAM is planning a direct flight between Rio de Janeiro and Miami, a first for the carrier, TAM officials say.

There is no start date for the operation but it is in the works, according to the airline’s press office in Brazil.

“‘We know we’re going to be up by the second half of the year, maybe by the end of the year,'” said Jose Sampol, TAM’s general manager for North America based in Miami.

The flight, he said, is to be available year-round and offer passenger and cargo service but all other details are pending. “‘At this point, we don’t have anything about the flight,'” Mr. Sampol said. “‘We don’t have any details about this route.'”
