Britain, Israel reach deal to increase London-Tel Aviv flights

Britain and Israel reached an agreement Tuesday for each country to allow a second airline to fly the London-Tel Aviv route.

Currently only British Airways and El Al make such commercial flights.

The Israeli Transportation Ministry called the agreement “‘a significant step toward opening the skies to competition.'”

Britain’s Department for Transport said bmi is the only British airline that has expressed interest in competing with BA on the route, and bmi announced that it plans to start daily, nonstop service next spring.

Norway’s low-cost airline Norwegian to launch London-Tromso route

Low-cost airline Norwegian said it plans to launch a new twice weekly service between London and the northern Norwegian city of Tromso, inside the Arctic circle.

The service will begin from Dec 8.

New Ryanair flights to Milan

Fashion and football capital Milan will soon be just a short hop from the south coast after budget airline Ryanair launched new flights there from its Bournemouth base.

Starting in December to attract skiers bound for slopes near the city, the Saturday flights will start at £10 each way including taxes and charges for the next seven days.

Flights are to Milan Bergamo, 27 miles outside the city, which is home to Champions League winners AC Milan and their rivals Inter as well as couture clothes designers and fashion shows, pictured.

Hamburg and Mallorca added to Easyjet destinations

From November 5th 2007 holidaymakers will be able to fly to Hamburg, Germany’s second city, from London Luton airport. The service will be daily, with return fares starting from £33.98 including taxes.

Also new are flights from East Midlands airport to Palma, the capital of the Spanish Balearics on the island of Mallorca.

The route will start from February 7th 2008 and will operate three times per week, increasing to a daily service for the summer season. Fares will start from £35.98 return.

easyJet to launch 46 new routes this winter

easyJet would launch a further two new routes this winter, connecting East Midlands with Palma (Mallorca) and London Luton with Hamburg, bringing the total number of new routes to be launched by the airline this winter to 46 and representing a growth of 14% year on year.

US: Airline to offer nonstop: Hub-Dominican Republic

JetBlue Airways Corp. will offer the only nonstop service from Boston to Santiago, Dominican Republic, between Dec. 12 and Jan. 15, on flights that arrive and leave from the Dominican capital in the wee hours of the morning.

Frontier adding flights to Cancun

A low-cost airline plans to begin providing non-stop service from Milwaukee to the vacation destination of Cancun, Mexico, later this year. Today Frontier Airlines is announcing plans to begin flying from Mitchell International Airport to Cancun on Dec. 15.
Denver-based Frontier would be the only regularly scheduled carrier offering non-stop service from Milwaukee to Cancun throughout the year. The only other airlines offering that route are charter carriers, such as Milwaukee-based Funjet Vacations.

easyJet to Gdansk, Innsbruck and Bari

The airline’s expansion to Bucharest and Gdansk represents the airline’s commitment to growth in Central Eastern Europe, whilst the addition of Innsbruck to the network will continue to position the airline as the first choice for independent skiers.

This announcement follows the recent news that the airline will also expand with new services from; Bristol to Madiera and Lisbon (starts 29 October and 31 October respectively); Gatwick to Lisbon (starts 1 October); Stansted to Madiera (starts 29 October); Edinburgh and Bournemouth to Krakow (starts 29 October and 30 October respectively).

Air India`s low-cost arm to fly limited domestic routes

Air India Express, the low-cost international subsidiary of Air India (the new carrier being formed by merging Air-India with Indian Airlines), has finalised plans to fly limited domestic routes in the southern and eastern sectors.

Starting this October, Air India Express will fly Cochin-Chennai, Cochin-Hyderabad, Cochin-Bangalore, Bangalore-Chennai, Chennai-Kolkata, Hyderabad-Kolkata and Kolkata-Agartala.

“‘These services will be point-to-point domestic services and not seamless operations to international destinations. We have plans to start daily services on the Cochin-Bangalore-Chennai route later,’” said an official spokesperson.

Kenya: Low-Cost Airline Introduces Three Nairobi-Eldoret Flights

Fly540, the low cost Kenyan airline, has introduced thrice-weekly flights between Nairobi and Eldoret.

This is in response to requests from potential passengers affected by the poor state of roads in Western Kenya, the airline said.

Fly540 will fly to Eldoret via Kisumu on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, starting July 20. The flights leave Nairobi at 8.15 am to arrive in Eldoret at 9.40 am. The return flight departs Eldoret at 10.10 am arriving in Nairobi at 11.30 am. Return fares begin with a pay-and-go starter fare of Ksh 7,540 ($113) exclusive of taxes.
