Cypriot Airline Ajet plans to fold next year

The airline whose unpressurized 737 crashed last year in Greece, killing 121, is going out of business.

Ajet, the new name given Cyprus-based airline Helios Airways after the accident, had been struggling ever since to recover its reputation and revenues.


Ryanair launches Frankfurt-Balaton flight

EasyJet launches new route from Bristol to Paris

EasyJet will has launched its new daily service from Bristol International Airport to Paris Charles de Gaulle. Passengers checking in for the inaugural flight will be greeted by a traditional French maid handing out freshly made baguettes, whilst being serenaded by an accordionist.

Virgin Atlantic defer their order of A380 planes by four years

Virgin Atlantic has said that they are deferring their order for the new Airbus A380 by four years. The company had ordered six of the new superjumbos for delivery in 2009 but they now want them delivered by 2013.

A380 plane has been a problem for Airbus as it has already suffered too many delays. Market had been speculating that Virgin would ditch the plane altogether but they have responded by stating that they still are confident about this plane.

New Milan Malpensa-Amsterdam route from October 31

EasyJet, the leading low-cost airline on the European market, will inaugurate its new Milan Malpensa-Amsterdam route on October 31. Daily flights are planned, with two ones very day starting on 15 December 2006.

The new flight is part of a further expansion from the Milan Malpensa airport set in motion by the company a few months after the inauguration in spring. The winter schedule, in addition to the new Milan Malpensa-Prague flight (from 15 December 2006), also calls for a sizeable increase in frequency for connections to the main European capitals.

WestJet triumphs with best quarter performance in its history

New U.S. low-fare airline Skybus orders 65 Airbus A319s

Skybus, a new low-cost/low-fare airline based in Columbus, Ohio, has signed a firm contract for the purchase of 65 Airbus A319 aircraft. In terms of number of Airbus aircraft, this is among the largest single orders ever by a U.S. carrier. The airline has not yet announced its engine selection for the single-aisle aircraft.

Oasis launches world’s first long-haul budget airline flight from Hong Kong

Oasis Airlines, which promotes itself as the world’s first long-haul budget airline, is making its inaugural cut-price flight from Hong Kong today.

One of Oasis’ two leased Boeing 747 jumbos was due to be airborne at 1:00 pm with a full complement of more than 300 passengers bound for London’s Gatwick Airport.

Whizz to Warsaw

Low cost airline Wizz Air has launched flights to Eastern Europe from the North East.

The flights to Warsaw, capital of Poland, from Durham Tees Valley will start from 28 July 2007 and will operate three times a week.

John Stephenson, Chief Commercial Officer of Wizz Air said: “We are very pleased to start flying from Durham Tees Valley. The airport is ideally placed to serve a large population area including Newcastle and provides excellent connectivity to the neighbouring cities.”
