No frills airline let passengers wait on planes for 10 hours

As an ice storm stranded JetBlue airplanes for up to 10½ hours, passengers sat within sight of the terminal without food, adequate restrooms or a reasonable explanation as to why they weren’t moving.

They could have been evacuated much sooner if the airline hadn’t waited so long to ask airport officials for help. JetBlue acknowledged Thursday that it hesitated nearly five hours before calling in shuttle buses to unload 10 jets that spent much of Wednesday sitting on runways because of icy weather and gate congestion.

JetBlue launches Boston-San Juan service

JetBlue Airways Corp. said Tuesday it launched new daily nonstop service to San Juan, Puerto Rico, from Boston for the winter season.

The service will operate through April 30 and is the low-cost carrier’s 22nd nonstop destination from Boston.

JetBlue has recently scaled back its growth plans as part of its goal to return to consistent profitability.

JetBlue eyes Delta, US Airways gates

Another airline is circling the proposed takeover of Delta Air Lines by US Airways, hoping for a shot at some airport gates.

JetBlue chief executive David Neeleman, in a speech to investors, said his airline would be interested in buying flight slots at Reagan National Airport in Washington, D.C., and New York’s LaGuardia Airport. Both Delta and US Airways operate shuttle flights between Washington, New York and Boston.

JetBlue delays airplane deliveries

JetBlue, a fast-growing airlines, said it is delaying deliveries of 32 new Embraer 190 jets it had been scheduled to receive from 2007 to 2010.The main reasons attributed to postpone the order are higher fuel prices and increasing competition.

JetBlue flights to increase at Thanksgiving

JetBlue Airways will increase the number of flights between Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport and New York around the Thanksgiving holiday, officials said Monday.

The airline will fly into SRQ twice daily from Nov. 19-27.
