easyJet Flexi available now on easyJet.com

easyJet has announced that its new Flexi fare is available to all via easyJet.com from today. This will give passengers unlimited flexibility to change the date of their flights up to two hours before the scheduled departure time.

Passengers booking an easyJet flexi fare will also benefit from automatic speedy boarding, no booking fees and a checked in hold bag included at no extra cost.

The new Flexi fares were initially available only through business booking channels, including Global Distribution Systems (GDS) and self booking tools used by business travel companies. Making Flexi fares available through easyJet.com, one of the UK’s top ten most popular websites, opens the fare to the 325 million people who visit easyJet.com each year.

easyJet takes delivery of its 200th Airbus aircraft

easyJet, have marked becoming the world’s youngest and quickest airline to reach a fleet of 200 Airbus aircraft, at a ceremony in Toulouse.

easyJet already operates the world’s largest fleet of A319s with over 166 in service today. Including their A320s, which have recently joined the fleet, the airline has grown to be Europe’s largest A320 Family operator. Since easyJet took delivery of its first Airbus aircraft (an A319) in September 2003, Airbus has delivered an aircraft on average every 14 days over the last eight years.

easyJet on the hunt for royal lookalikes

The European low-fare airline easyJet celebrates the royal wedding looking for the best doubles of Will and Kate all over Europe.

Easyjet to spray its planes with nano-paint

Easyjet is set to become the UK’s first commercial airline to apply nano-paint to its aircraft.

The super-micro technology, which is 100 times thinner than the average human hair, will allow the plane to slide more efficiently through the air, cutting costly fuel bills and giving airline bosses more leeway to cut fares.

The new technology will add 4oz to the weight of the plane but will prevent dust and debris build up.

Easyjet poised to launch price-per-mile baggage fees

Millions of easyJet passengers face higher baggage charges under a new price-by-mile policy.

The budget airline is poised to scrap its £9 flat fee for luggage checked into a plane’s hold and charge by distance instead.

Passengers on short trips may save money but families flying further to destinations such as Crete and Sharm El Sheikh in Egypt will pay more. The changes could be announced in the next month, hitting Brits heading abroad for Easter.

On the plus side, easyJet could allow passengers to take more than one bag in the cabin for free.

easyJet plane “too heavy” to take off from Birmingham

Thirty passengers were ordered off an easyJet plane in Birmingham on Boxing Day because it had been loaded with too much fuel before take-off.

The flight, which was scheduled to fly to Geneva in Switzerland, had to lose weight before take-off so the company asked for volunteers to disembark. Following a lukewarm response – only seven people took up the offer – the last 30 passengers to board were then told to get off the easyJet plane.

EasyJet to buy 15 new Airbus A320s to expand in Europe

EasyJet has agreed to order 15 new planes from Airbus worth $1.1bn (£705m) as the low-cost airline seeks to expand its capacity in mainland Europe.

The company is to convert options on 15 A320s into firm orders with “‘substantial confidential price concessions'” secured with Airbus and the engine provider, CFM.

Options have also been agreed on a further 33 A320s, and easyJet has converted a contract for 20 A319s due for delivery from next January into the larger A320, increasing the number of seats by 480.

easyJet eyes overseas tour operator launch to avoid VAT

easyJet could launch its new low-cost tour operation outside the UK in a bid to save millions in VAT. easyJet Holidays – a joint venture between easyJet and Lowcost Travel – is expected to be registered in Switzerland in a bid to sidestep VAT under the Tour Operator’s Margin Scheme.

Should the model prove successful it could pave the way for other tour operators to register overseas.

According to sources close to the deal say easyJet should save about £10 million in VAT over three years.
