Malta: Clickair to start operating this month

7 June 2007

Clickair will start operating to Malta twice weekly from this month to October with a capacity of 15,000 passengers both ways. It is estimated that this airline will be carrying this year over 5,000 passengers one way – about 80 per cent of them tourists.

The Minister for Tourism and Culture Francis Zammit Dimech addressed a press conference at the Malta International Airport (MIA) on the occasion of the commencement of Click Air operations from and to Barcelona. He said that adding another low cost airline to the network of airlines operating to our country was good news for our tourism industry.

Following an agreement signed on Thursday, the Malta Tourism Authority confirmed yesterday that Spanish low-cost carrier Clickair will begin serving the Malta route in June on a twice-weekly basis.

In a statement issued yesterday evening, the MTA said the agreement, signed by MTA chairman Sam Mifsud and Clickair CEO Alex Cruz, had been finalised in collaboration with Malta International Airport and effectively confirms that the airline will be commencing operations between Malta and Barcelona as from the first week of June.

Spanish low cost carrier may operate to Malta

15 March 2007

A Spanish low-cost carrier is likely to join the other three which will be operating to Malta in summer.

Talks are being held with Clickair, a Catalan low-cost airline which, if successful, would link Malta International Airport with El Prat airport in Barcelona. Click Air is part-owned by Iberia Lineas Aereas airlines.

If the talks were to materialise, the Spanish carrier will start operating some time in June, joining Italian low-cost carrier Meridiana and Irish carrier Ryanair, which already operate to Malta. Towards the end of the month, Germany’s low-cost carrier Germanwings will start flights from Cologne and Stuttgart.
