Iceland Express offers new destinations for summer 2009

Iceland Express, the low cost airline providing cheap flights to and from Reykjavik, has released its summer timetable for 2009. The new schedule sees the airline increase its destination list to include 19 major European cities.

Iceland Express passengers are already able to book cheap flights to Iceland from new destinations such as Cyprus, Geneva and Krakow.

Jet2 dropping Barcelona route

Budget airline Jet2.com is dropping its Belfast to Barcelona route, but is adding Croatia and Cornwall to its destinations.

The airline is ending the Barcelona service from 26 October due to competition on the route. Jet2.com said customers who have booked flights to Barcelona in 2009 would get refunds or a free destination change.

EasyJet fills XL gap

EasyJet has scheduled additional flights to three holiday destinations next month following the demise of XL Leisure Group.

Extra flights have been added from Gatwick to Las Palmas, Gran Canaria; Dalaman in Turkey and Arracife in Lanzarote.

Flyglobespan to initiate flights to Turkey

Flyglobespan, a low-cost Scottish airline based in Edinburgh, has announced that it will launch direct flights to Turkey next summer.

Considering the rising interest of British tourists in Turkish holiday spots in recent years, Flyglobespan has decided to offer direct flights to Dalaman, a popular Turkish resort.

Similarly, EasyJet, a low-cost British airline, had started offering flights to certain destinations in Turkey last year.

Deutsch Lufthansa launched its maiden Pune-Frankfurt, all-business class, flight today with a Airbus 319 carrier, reconfigured to provide a seating arrangement of 48 seats. Announcing the launch of this 6-days-a-week flight, Lufthansa south east Asia director, Werner Heesen, said the company plans to attract only “corporate” fliers through this flight.

Low-cost airline to begin operations in Ukraine

A Hungarian low-cost airline received final approval to began operations in Ukraine, ending unchallenged control of the former Soviet republic’s air-passenger market by high-price domestic carriers.

Budapest-headquartered Wizz Air obtained certification to operate an Airbus 320 aircraft on Ukrainian internal routes, and expected the maiden flight to take place in July, company officials said.

Airline launches new European flights

Low-cost airline bmibaby has revealed that it will open up new routes between the UK and mainland Europe later this year.

Services from Birmingham, Cardiff, East Midlands and Manchester have been announced as part of its programme for winter 2008.

Some of the flights will connect with what the carrier describes as several key Mediterranean destinations, including places in Spain, Italy and France.

Irish Air Lingus to fly Dublin Sofia

Irish low-cost airliner Aer Lingus announced it would start a new twice weekly service between Dublin and Sofia for its winter 2008 schedule, along with new services to Hamburg, Newcastle, Salzburg and Agadir. In addition, the company will increase the frequency of flights to a number of other European destinations.

Virgin America adds NYC, Las Vegas non-stop flight

Virgin America, a spinoff of Virgin Atlantic, said Wednesday it will add one daily non-stop flight between New York’s John F. Kennedy International and Las Vegas McCarran International airports.

Effective Sept. 4, the flight adds to the young airline’s growing seven-city network.
