Malaysia Airlines eye A380 alternatives

Malaysia Airlines said Wednesday it was disappointed with further delays in the delivery of Airbus A380 superjumbos and would assess all available alternatives.The airline has ordered six jets. Airbus said Tuesday it would push back the delivery date for the first A380 jet for the third time until the second half of 2007 due to wiring complications. The plane is now two years behind its original schedule.

Ryanair begins new flight routes

Budget airline Ryanair is extending its operation at Liverpool’s John Lennon Airport with 11 new destinations.
Routes to Santiago, Inverness, Wroclaw, Aberdeen, Kaunas and Ancona officially launched from the airport of Liverpool.

A further five routes – Poznan, Krakow, Tampere, Alghero and Santander – are being launched later in the week.

Flybe plans to charge for check-in

Flybe has announced that it will begin charging passengers for using traditional check-in desks within two years.

The low-cost airline wants to encourage the use of online check-in and self-service kiosks by introducing a charge for those wanting to check in the regular way.

Italy court says Government must start new Volare auction process within 60 days

The state council, Italy’s top administrative court, said the government must start organising another auction of the Italian low-cost airline Volare within 60 days, according to the documents of a court ruling made on September 29.

In March, the troubled state-controlled airline Alitalia SpA had won the first auction for Volare by offering 38M euros. But the acquisition was suspended by the state council after the Italian airline Air One appealed against a lower court clearing the operation.

Iberia’s low cost airline Clickair expects to book 260M euros revenues in 2007

Iberia Lineas Aereas de Espana’s new low cost airline Clickair said it expects to book 260 M euros in revenues in 2007.

The airline, which recently began operations out of Barcelona’s El Prat airport, will have a fleet of 20 airplanes by end-2007, and 30 planes by end-2008, a Clickair spokeswoman said.

First bodies recovered from Brazil plane crash

Rescuers recovered the first two bodies from the wreckage of a crashed Brazilian passenger plane in the Amazon jungle on Sunday and reported that none of the 155 people on board had survived, the Brazilian Airforce said.

The crash of the brand-new Boeing 737-800 belonging to low-cost airline Gol is Brazil’s worst aviation disaster.

Search and rescue teams had to rappel down from helicopters while others hacked their way through thick jungle to reach the wreckage after the plane went down in remote Mato Grosso state on Friday.
