Lufthansa launches two new Asian routes

German airline Lufthansa on Monday said it had launched two routes from China and Singapore to Munich, despite soaring oil prices which have seen other airlines cutting routes and capacity.

Lufthansa said it would run five flights a week between Singapore’s Changi Airport and Munich Airport as well as thrice weekly flights from Shenyang in China to Munich via Seoul.

Iberia to offer flights to Cagliari, Catania and Olbia

Iberia and Meridiana have signed a code-sharing agreement for flights within Italy, enabling Iberia to offer flights to Cagliari, Catania, Olbia as well as to another eight Italian destinations. Under the new scheme, Iberia passengers can book to Cagliari and Olbia via Roma and to Catania via Bologna.

Meridiana plans Ugandan airline

Italy’s Meridiana is planning to launch a new Ugandan carrier in November with international development agency the Aga Khan Fund for Economic Development (AKFED).

Air Uganda will be based in Entebbe and will initially operate two daily flights to Nairobi in Kenya four weekly flights to Dar es Salaam and Kilimanjaro in Tanzania and three weekly flights to Juba in Sudan. The carrier will start with one McDonnell Douglas DC-9, add a Boeing MD-87 in March and take a second MD-87 in May.

No-frills Meridiana starts direct Budapest-Florence flights

Ferihegy’s growing network is expanding with a new airline and a new destination, as Meridiana launches a direct air link between Florence and Budapest from 7 December, the Budapest Airport has announced on Friday.
