Jet2 plane diverted after passenger’s death

A plane had to make an emergency diversion after a passenger died on board.

Airline Jet2 said the incident happened on board a flight from Leeds Bradford Airport to Prague last Friday.

A Jet2 spokeswoman said the pilot made an emergency diversion to Dusseldorf in Germany to “‘seek urgent medical attention'”.

British love affair with Spain to continue in 2012

British travellers’ love affair with Spain will be as passionate as ever in 2012, according to Jet2.com and package trip provider Jet2holidays.

In a report predicting key trends for the coming year based on surveys and customer data, the company revealed that 30 per cent of sun seekers are planning to visit the Iberian peninsula for their main holiday.

Alicante, Ibiza, Majorca and Malaga will continue to welcome high numbers of British visitors, according to the research, while Dalaman in Turkey and the Greek island of Crete are also attracting interest.

All-inclusive trips are set to prove popular among consumers trying to stick to a budget, with Jet2holidays reporting that 60 per cent of all family bookings for the coming year are for packages of this kind.

Spain and Portugal boom as travellers avoid Egypt

Spain and Portugal are seeing a resurgence as customers seek an alternative to Egypt, where political violence continued into a third week.

Leisure carrier Jet2.com pulled its summer programme to Sharm el-Sheikh and Hurghada this week as protesters stepped up their efforts to overthrow President Hosni Mubarak.

Foreign and Commonwealth Office‘ advice remained unchanged, with guidance against all but essential travel to Cairo, Alexandria, Luxor and Suez.

Fears are growing that the political violence will have a long-term impact on tourism to Egypt.

Jet2 dropping Barcelona route

Budget airline Jet2.com is dropping its Belfast to Barcelona route, but is adding Croatia and Cornwall to its destinations.

The airline is ending the Barcelona service from 26 October due to competition on the route. Jet2.com said customers who have booked flights to Barcelona in 2009 would get refunds or a free destination change.

Low cost airline sees shares fall

Low fares airline Jet2.com which is based at Leeds Bradford airport has admitted that passenger numbers in the winter have been disappointing.

Jet2, a subsidiary of Dart Group, has seen its share price plummet from more than 130p a year ago to just 27.5p now. Parent company Dart has issued a trading statement ahead of its full year results on 31 March.

Hermes Airports announced that Pafos International Airport has been selected as one of eight new routes for Summer 2008 to be operated by UK low cost airline Jet2.com, based at Leeds Bradford Airport. New services between Leeds Bradford and Pafos will start on Sunday 4 May 2008.

Jet2.com, the low cost airline, revealed that it had come top in a punctuality list of low cost airlines operating out of the UK. Flightontime.info, the online flight data specialists, analysed official CAA (Civil Aviation Authority) flight data and 12-months statistics confirmed that Jet2.com had beaten the likes of Ryanair, easyJet and BMIbaby to claim the crown of most punctual low cost airline in the UK.

Airline launches new low-cost destinations

low-cost airline Jet2.com has launched two new services from its base at Newcastle International Airport.

The airline, which now flies to 16 destinations from the North-East, has added services to two popular locations in the Canary Islands to the list.

The inaugural flights to Gran Canaria and Lanzarote will leave Newcastle on October 29 and November 1 respectively, in time for the beginning of the winter 2007-8 season, and tickets are now on sale, priced from £54.99 one way, including taxes.
