Low-cost airline to begin operations in Ukraine

A Hungarian low-cost airline received final approval to began operations in Ukraine, ending unchallenged control of the former Soviet republic’s air-passenger market by high-price domestic carriers.

Budapest-headquartered Wizz Air obtained certification to operate an Airbus 320 aircraft on Ukrainian internal routes, and expected the maiden flight to take place in July, company officials said.

Low-cost airline Germanwings aims at 2 new Ukraine routes

The German low-cost airline Germanwings intends to open two new routes to the former Soviet republic Ukraine.

Oleksander Davydov, a Ukraine Transport Ministry spokesman, confirmed Germanwings had applied to operate aicraft along the routes Kiev-Berlin and Kiev-Cologne.

Currently only one low-cost airline, Hungarian WizzAir, is registered to operates flights into and out of Ukraine. The first WizzAir flight is expected this month.

Wizz Air further expands in Romania, announces new routes to Brussels, Milan, Dortmund

Wizz Air Introduces low cost domestic flights

Low-cost air carrier Wizz Air announced that it would start new domestic flights from Bulgaria’s capital to the sea-side city of Varna. The company said it planned to operate four flights per week between Sofia and Varna.

The plans would make it the first low cost airline to operate domestic flights in Bulgaria, a Wizz Air media statement said.

Introduction of the domestic flights was part of a series of new flights that were being introduced, including flights to Milan-Bergamo, Valencia, Barcelona and Izmir.

Wizz Air introduces all inclusive fares

Wizz Air, central & eastern Europe’s largest low cost-low fare airline, today announced its move to an all inclusive pricing structure.

From today, all fares will be quoted inclusive of taxes, charges and handling fees. Fares start from as low as 19.99.

Natasa Kázmér, head of Corporate Communication and Public Affairs for Wizz Air said: “We have been applying all inclusive fares in a number of markets to-date and today we can announce that we plan to roll it out throughout the entire network”.

Budget airline announces expansion of services between UK and Bucharest

Wizz Air, a budget airline that operates in various eastern European countries, has announced an expansion of its services between the UK and Bucharest.

Holidaymakers and property investors from Liverpool be able to fly to Bucharest from John Lennon Airport from October 1st 2007 using Wizz Air, with services scheduled for three times a week.

Wizz Air plans London share listing-report

Wizz Air, one of eastern Europe’s biggest budget airlines, plans to float on the London Stock Exchange, in a listing which could value it at up to 500 million pounds ($1 billion), the Daily Telegraph said on Wednesday.

A Wizz Air spokeswoman at the Budapest-based airline declined to comment on the report.

The float is planned before the end of the year and will include fundraising of up to 200 million pounds to finance the airline’s expansion, the newspaper said.

Hungary Wizz Air carries 6 millionth passenger

Wizz Air, the largest low fare-low cost airline in Central and Eastern Europe carried six million passengers since its May 2004 launch, the airline has announced on Tuesday.

Within one year the carrier has doubled its passenger numbers and has outperformed its competitors.

The airline has targeted to carry the next one million passengers within only three months.

Whizz to Warsaw

Low cost airline Wizz Air has launched flights to Eastern Europe from the North East.

The flights to Warsaw, capital of Poland, from Durham Tees Valley will start from 28 July 2007 and will operate three times a week.

John Stephenson, Chief Commercial Officer of Wizz Air said: “We are very pleased to start flying from Durham Tees Valley. The airport is ideally placed to serve a large population area including Newcastle and provides excellent connectivity to the neighbouring cities.”

Wizz Air rescues stranded Centralwings passengers again

Wizz Air, the largest low fare - low cost airline in Poland offers free tickets to Centralwings passengers whose flights to and from Cologne were cancelled.

Passengers stranded as a consequence of Centralwings’ cancelling its Katowice-Cologne and Wroclaw-Cologne routes, can re-book on Wizz Air’s Katowice-Cologne or Wroclaw-Dortmund flights. On these routes Wizz Air increased the number of free seats offered (only taxes and charges equivalent to PLN 77 / EUR 19.98 to be paid) and extended the booking period until Oct 23, 2006. Wizz Air continues to be the leading carrier between South Poland and the Ruhr region with more than two flights daily.
